In a sentence
Mind's Ear is an e-book reader for iPhone and iPad that reads your books aloud, in a natural voice made on the device itself, so nothing you read ever leaves it.
In a paragraph
Tap any sentence in an EPUB, PDF or text book and Mind's Ear reads it aloud from there, marking each word as it's spoken and turning the pages as it goes, even with the screen locked. Its 54 voices come from the open-source Kokoro speech model, which runs entirely on the device: there's no account, no internet connection needed, and no data collected. Readers can highlight passages in five colours, or copy them. It comes with four classics, from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to Frankenstein, which read aloud free; an annual subscription reads aloud the books you add. It's made for iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo, where it opens like a book.
